Judged as an impassable forest massif, present on a large part of the current Gâtine Tourangelle, the forest of Blémars was cleared in the 11th and 12th century by the monks of the abbey of Marmoutier. The village of Dame-Marie-les-Bois was established at that time, as attested by the creation of the church. Today, most of this remaining forest is the forest of Blois.
